WPL Merlins Host Berkeley At Infinity Park

by | Sep 5, 2018 | Elite Women

Glendale’s Women’s Premier League Merlins team will play their first home game of the season this Saturday at 5pm Mountain Time, hosting the Berkeley WPL squad at Infinity Park. The Glendale side took a loss to San Diego in their season opener, but found a more impressive stride in a blowout victory over Oregon Sports Union last weekend.

Berkeley enters the September 8 contest as a difficult opponent with an unblemished 3-0 record, having already defeated San Diego, Oregon, and Chicago North Shore. Asked about the match, Merlins Head Coach Luke Gross knows his team will need to be on their toes to take down the California side: “They’re undefeated. They are going to be a very tough team, with an attack similar to ours. We know they’ll be tough and we have to continue to improve in order to continue to win.”

In addition to the world-class facilities at Infinity Park, the Merlins have exceptional talent to work with this weekend. A deep bench is something Head Coach Luke Gross enjoys having at his disposal: “We have to choose between three or four players to put at any one position on game day. It’s great to have that problem. It just shows the quality of players we have here.”

The Merlins will travel to Illinois on September 16 to take on Chicago North Shore. The squad’s next home match is September 22, when Glendale hosts Lindenwood WPL at Infinity Park. For the 2018 season, the WPL Merlins will be playing on the Infinity Park Stadium pitch, opening for the professional men’s team, the Glendale Raptors. The full season schedule can be found at
