Coming off a difficult loss to the Austin Blacks in a close game last Saturday, the Merlins have focused on maintaining their composure and improving tackling in preparation for this weekend’s game. Head Coach Luke Gross acknowledged the issue, but asserted that the Merlins team won’t back down from the challenge: “We worked on tackling and support for the ball in contact. We’re back on the horse this week.” Following some mid-season strategy adjustments, the Stormers secured their first victory of the season against the Dallas Harlequins last Saturday. Gross expects the competition this weekend to be stout: “They’ve changed some things around and had some youngsters come in I believe. I anticipate a lively match”
The 17th will be a day full of elite club-level rugby for Glendale, with nearly all of the non-professional teams competing. The U23 team will travel to Ft. Collins, CO to take on Colorado State University.
The Merlins next game is again at home, hosting the 2-3-1 Dallas Harlequins on March 24 at 3pm Mountain Time. The Division II Men’s team will also be playing at Infinity Park, taking on the Denver Harlequins at 12:30pm. Glendale’s Division I Women’s team will host the Utah Vipers at 11am.
